Back-To-School Essentials

It’s that time again students, that time of year that some of us love and some of us hate. It’s time to start fall semester again, and that means, it’s time to go back-to-school shopping.

Unlike in elementary school, we aren’t given a mile-long list of supplies that we need to bring to school on the first day. There is no list telling us to bring a pencil box full of crayons, colored pencils, and a protractor. There is no outline of 6 pens, a highlighter, and an extra tissue box for our teacher. Instead, all we get is a list of our textbooks that reads, “Biology- Concepts and Investigations,” and “Naked Economics.” While still necessary, our college level “list” that we are given just doesn’t help us out when it comes to the school supplies needed to ace Bio 100 and Econ 110.

Thankfully, BYU has its own BYU Store that is full of fantastic supplies to help us be as prepared as we can possibly be. We have surveyed students to find out their favorite school supplies all the way from pencil brand to folder size.

Planner

Students all over campus agree that their planner is their number one when it comes to essential school supplies. BYU offers a few varieties of yearly planners, some of which include all of the BYU school breaks and Tuesday Devotionals.

Zebra Pencils

One of my personal favorites, are mechanical pencils that look like actual pencils. The no-hassle sharpening free pencils are perfect for a long class of note taking.

Lanyard

Everybody’s lost their keys at least once, but your chances go way down when you have them hooked to a lanyard. Say “NO” to endlessly digging through your bag as you walk to your car. We say “YES” to the many different shapes, colors, and sizes that BYU’s bookstore offers when it comes to lanyards.

College Ruled Notebooks

By the time you get to college you should know that you can get much more out of your notebooks when you use “college ruled” vs “wide ruled.” Sometimes it can be easy to pick up the wrong kind, so make sure you pay attention to what the labels say when you grab a handful of the most colorful notebooks you can find!

*Tip - Get different colored notebooks for different classes so you can identify them easily.

Sticky Notes

Organization is key when it comes to staying on top of your classes. One of the best ways to stay organized is to utilize sticky notes. My favorite kind of sticky notes are Post-it’s Flags. They are perfect for marking pages in textbooks, without having to turn down corners.

Cougar Gear

BYU is known for its die hard fans, and its true, we all bleed blue, right? Well, why not show our cougar pride through all of our school supplies too? The bookstore is the place to go when it comes to decking yourself out from head to toe in white and blue. Rise and Shout BYU students!

Wall Frequent Diner Card

Finally, don’t forget to pick up your frequent diner card at The Wall in the Wilkinson Center! The Wall is the perfect place to put all of those school supplies to use and get some studying done. Why not enjoy a delicious burger while doing it!

Welcome back to school!
